Relieve Discomfort and Reclaim Your Skin's Health
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition affecting millions of individuals worldwide. It can cause both physical discomfort and self-esteem issues. However, you don’t have to suffer forever. The dedicated experts at Deseret Dermatology are here to provide effective psoriasis treatment that will help you find relief and better manage your condition.
Advanced, Compassionate Care
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin condition that results in the rapid, excessive growth of skin cells. It leads to the development of raised, red, scaly areas on the skin, which are often itchy and cause discomfort. These plaques can vary in size and can occur anywhere on the body, including the scalp, elbows, knees, hands, feet, and nails.
We are experts in a wide range of treatments for psoriasis, from the old school coal tar and light therapy, to newly released biologicals. Topical medications for psoriasis may include corticosteroids, calcipotriene, and Vtama®, to help reduce psoriasis symptoms, including redness, scaling, and itching. When needed, we prescribe oral medicines, such as methotrexate, acitretin, Otezla®, and Xeljanz®.
For moderate to severe psoriasis, injected biologic therapies can offer significant relief. Examples of those we offer are Humira®, Enbrel®, Stelara®, Cosentyx®, Siliq®, Taltz®, and Tremfya®.

FAQs
The exact cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it occurs when the immune system releases inflammatory chemicals (cytokines) that alter the way the skin grows. Genetic factors are thought to play a significant role.
Common symptoms of psoriasis include red, scaly, and raised patches of skin (plaques) that are often itchy and/or painful. The skin can become thickened and develop silvery-white scales. Psoriasis can affect a variety of body areas, with elbows, knees, and scalp among the most common. Some people may also experience joint pain and swelling, a condition known as psoriatic arthritis.
In people with a genetic susceptibility to psoriasis, an initial outbreak might follow a Strep infection, or might come out of the blue. For people who have psoriasis, their condition can be worsened by stress, infections, certain medications, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and skin injuries such as sunburns, scrapes, or surgeries.
We recommend a gentle, simple skincare routine to help manage psoriasis and minimize discomfort. Mild, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers, avoidance of irritants like harsh soaps, drying alcohols, and hot water, and the use of sunscreen can help prevent flare-ups. If your psoriasis is still unmanageable, a medication may be right for you. Contact us and we’ll discuss the best next step for you.
